Maths is everywhere

I vividly recall my school days when teachers would often say, "You won't be walking around with a calculator in your pocket, do you really need to learn this?" Little did they know that we would indeed have calculators right in our pockets! You might be thinking, "Well, I have a calculator on my phone, so why bother learning maths?" But let me tell you, learning how to make the most of your calculator can be a real game-changer.

There are countless situations where having some maths skills can come to your rescue. For instance, in some places abroad, the VAT is added only at the till. So, if you're trying to stay on budget, knowing how to calculate the final cost as you shop can be incredibly useful. Or picture this: you're cooking for three people, but you can only find a recipe for four. To adjust the ingredients, you need to know how to divide by four to get the quantities for one person and then multiply by three to serve your group.

And that's not all! Imagine you want to figure out the cost of a road trip. You'll need to convert your car's miles per gallon (mpg) to miles per liter (mpl), divide the journey's length by this value to determine your fuel needs, and then multiply by the current fuel price to estimate the total cost of your adventure.

Can you think of other real-life scenarios where maths comes in handy? It's all around us, so let's boost our confidence with maths – it's a skill that can make life a whole lot easier and more engaging!
